William Aldon Stever passed away June 23, 2016, at
Ashley Manor in Hermiston. He was 78.
William was preceded in death by his wife, Lisa; and
his daughter, Kelly Hutcherson. William is survived
by his son, Mike and his wife Tara Stever; grandchildren,
Chance and his wife Trinity, Tasha and her
husband Stefan Lundbom; along with three greatgrandchildren,
Tanlie, Saige and Brogan; son-in-law,
Dale Hutcherson and their boys Josh, Justin, Austin
and Matt and his wife Chandra Hutcherson; and
great-granddaughter, Bella.
William was a third-generation railroader. He
worked as an engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad
for 43 years. In all those years he never had an accident
or citation.
William in his younger years loved to fish and hunt.
He would take his kids fishing and while fishing he
would tell his kids what the fish were doing under the
water, what they were thinking and when they were
going to bite. He would literally talk the fish right
into the ice chest. And pheasants, we ate so many
pheasants as kids I don’t think as adults we ever ate
pheasants again.
William also enjoyed boating. He had his wife and
children out at Fishhook Ppark on the Snake River
from the time they were born and for several years
after. His family and close family friends somehow
got the nickname “The River Rats.” His family and
close friends swam, water-skied and fished for several
years on that river.
Funeral services for William will be held at Herring
Groseclose Funeral Home at 10 a.m., Wednesday,
June 29, 2016.
