William "Bill" J. Young

William (Bill) J. Young was born in Altoona, PA, on April 19, 1947. His family moved from Pennsylvania to California in 1958. Bill worked for the Sherriff Department, Lucky Stores Security, and at McDonald Douglas in Long Beach, CA. One of his big accomplishments was putting heating in the cargo of airplanes to aid in safe pet travel.

In 1974, he married Marilyn Schmal, and they had one daughter, Carol Ann. They were married until 1996. Bill moved to Oregon in 1992. Later, he met Susan Williams, and they were married in 1997. Bill and Sue moved to Arizona in 2005, where they lived for 11 years. In 2016, they moved to Walla Walla, WA, to be closer to family.

Bill and Sue traveled a lot. They enjoyed experiencing the beauty of Arizona, especially the Grand Canyon. They visited places such as Mexico, Alaska, and Maui in recent years. At home, they enjoyed sharing their love of animals. Many dogs, cats, horses, goats, etc., blessed their life together. Bill had a great sense of humor and loved his inside jokes with people. He enjoyed motorcycles, his firearms, and target shooting. Bill valued his relationships and was always willing to lend a kind ear and words of encouragement.

Bill passed peacefully at home on September 17, 2023. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Adelaide Young. He is survived by his wife, Susan Young; daughter, Carol Schwein; stepchildren, Jacob Williams and Brooke Wicks; grandchildren, Josiah, Jaelyn, Josiane, Arabella, Hayden, Tucker, and Blake; great-grandchild, Jazrael; and siblings, Karen Redding, George Young, and Kevin Young.

His memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at 3:00 PM, at the Cowboy Church, 8136 Old Hwy 12, Walla Walla, WA.
