Wayne LaVerne Schulz was born June 17, 1927, in Keokuk, IA, and died at home in Walla Walla, WA, on May 22, 2023. He was the second of six children born to Leroy Carl David Schulz and Dorothy Leone Carmichael. Two of his siblings, twins Jewel Marie and Joanne Louise (1930), lived just a few days. Upon graduating from high school in June 1945, he joined the United States Navy to serve in WWII. After the war, Wayne worked in Keokuk before attending Drake University, graduating in 1953 with a BA degree. He began his career with the YMCA in 1953, starting in Des Moines (IA), followed by service in Spokane (WA), Roseburg (OR), and Albuquerque (NM).
Wayne married Patricia Margaret Bucklin in March of 1960. Wayne and Pat had two children, Lori Jean (1961) and Eric Paul (1962).
After leaving the YMCA in 1968, Wayne served in various social service occupations in Wenatchee, Soap Lake, and Moses Lake, WA, before retiring in 1988. Once retired, Wayne and Pat traveled around the United States with their RV for 16 years before settling in Walla Walla.
He is survived by his brother, Roger Dale Schulz; daughter, Lori Farmer; son, Eric Schulz; grandchildren, Zachariah and Jared Farmer, Christopher and Anne Schulz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy (1967) and Dorothy (1980); sister, Dorothy Lee Schulz (2004); brother, Donald Barter Schulz (2006); and wife of 60 years, Pat (2020).
