Virginia Lee Martin was born in Algona, Iowa in 1918. She just celebrated her 100th birthday. She was one of six children. The family moved to a farm in North Dakota when she was young. She had fond memories of growing up in North Dakota. The family moved to Lewis Peak in 1938, Virginia and her sister Dorothy followed and moved to Walla Walla in 1939.
She retired after 25 years with the Washington State Penitentiary where she did clerical work for the Supervisors in minimum security. Virginia was a member of Saint Patrick and Assumption Catholic Churches. She was a member and officer in both The Catholic Daughters and the Walla Walla VFW, willing to give of her time and resources. She put family first and was able to help family members above her own interests. Important to her were her pets, both dogs and cats through the years.
She will be missed by her son, James Reid; and daughter, Jo Anne Peters; sister, Dorothy Hoffman; and brother, Dr. Thomas Thompson; along with four grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Martin; daughter, Donna (Reid) Hillman; parents, Lee and Jenny Thompson; brothers, Bob and Ralph Thompson; and sister Jeannie Dando.
Services will be held on Wednesday, January. 23, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Blue Mountain Humane Society through the funeral home.
