Virginia Louise Davenport Carpenter

Virginia Louise Davenport Carpenter, 87, of Walla Walla, Washington, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 25, 2025.

She was born June 3, 1938, in Wenatchee, Washington, and spent her early years in the gold-mining town of Blewett. She later moved to Auburn, Washington, where she graduated from high school in 1956. In 1957, she married George Carpenter, and together they raised three sons, eventually settling in Walla Walla in 1975.

Virginia devoted more than 50 years to teaching children’s Sunday school. She was active in local Republican politics and worked for many years as a real estate salesperson and broker in the Walla Walla Valley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; her brother, David; and her sister, Shirley.

She is survived by her sisters, Lucille Kirchner of Maple Valley, Washington, and Joyce Rosenberger of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; her sons, Rod Carpenter (Tammie) and Eric Carpenter (Karen), both of Walla Walla, and Jay Carpenter (Carol) of Hamilton, Michigan; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of the Herring Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery and a reception at the Courtyard by Marriott, 550 West Rose Street, Walla Walla.
