Lifelong Walla Walla resident Virginia Paralee Casey died at the age of 97 in April 11, 2017. She was born on May 23, 1920, to Russell Thomas and Ruth Taylor. She attended school at Sharpstein Elementary School, Walla Walla High School, and Walla Walla Business College.
Mrs. Casey was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Adrien “Toad” Casey; and her late brother, Russell Thomas Taylor Jr.
Married in November 1941, the Casey’s shared 45 years on Casey Farms in Eureka, Washington, and raised four children there. Paralee was an active participant in farm life, especially with her wonderful harvest crew meals. During the 1950s she became a licensed pilot, accompanying her husband on numerous trips with the Flying Farmers of America throughout the U.S. She was a lifelong contract bridge player, and 60 year member of The Book Club in Walla Walla.
Mrs. Casey worked in the English Department at Walla Walla High School between 1967 and 1977. She often joked that she kept tabs on her children by being involved daily at their high school. A 70 year member of the Walla Walla Country Club, she enjoyed both golf and bridge. She also volunteered in St. Mary’s emergency services for six years. Paralee is survived by her daughter, Debra; sons, Matt and wife Judy, Brian and wife Jane, all of Walla Walla; her daughter, Pam O’Shaughnessy and her husband John in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.; her grandchildren, Casey Garza and husband Adrian and Nicholas Casey all of Walla Walla. She is preceded in death by her loving daughter-in-law, Sheryl Bowers Casey; and is survived by many step-children, nieces and nephews.
Private family graveside service will be held on Wednesday April 19, 2017, at The Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Providence St. Mary’s Cancer Center through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder.
