Virginia Cook Callaway

Virginia Cook Callaway peacefully passed away on November 16, 2018.

She was born May 10, 1920 in Stanwood, Washington to Dr. Myron and Virginia Cook.  Virginia graduated from Stanwood High School, then attending Western Washington College in Bellingham and East Washington College in Cheney.

Just prior to World War II she went to work in the supply department of the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as a secretary.  She met her husband, Vance Callaway in Bremerton where he was stationed as a Naval Dispersing Officer; they were married in Stanwood on May 11, 1946.

After living in Dallas, Texas, Everett, Washington, Coulee Dam and Soap Lake where Mr. Callaway was employed by the Bureau of Reclamation, their family moved to Walla Walla.  Mr. Callaway was employed by School Dist. #140 as a secretary at Pioneer Junior High, where she worked in the Principals office.

She was a 4-H leader for 5 years, sang in the community choral union and was active in her church for many years, singing in the church choir for 5 years.  Virginia enjoyed many hobby, weekly Bridge game with friends, gardening in the summer, maintaining her yard and flowers and having a garden every summer.  She was member of the Pioneer United Methodist Church, AARP and NARF.   After their retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling with their travel trailer, and especially enjoyed many vacations in Hawaii.

She is survived by daughter Marti (Steve) Isill of Walla Walla, WA. son Jim Callaway of Walla Walla, WA.  and grandchildren Doug Low, Deya Doepker, Cory Doepker; great-grandchildren Deja Roberson, Dreyanna Pimpleton, Kaylee Doepker and Carson Doepker and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Myron S. and Virginia C. Cook, her brothers William Myron Cook who passed in 1934 and John P. Cook and her husband Harold Vance Callaway

At Virginias request no service will be held.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA.
