Virae Elvina Allison

ViRae Elvina Allison passed away in the evening of May 19, 2012, at her Wheatland Village home in Walla Walla, at the age of 99.

She lived a full life and experienced a life’s journey with loving family members, friendships, travel, passionate athletic interests, spiritual acceptance and determined adaption to the challenges of “getting up there in age.” The many joys that came her way balanced the sorrows that visited a life long lived.

ViRae was born near Coronation, Alberta, Canada, on April 13, 1913, to Edward LeFore and Dena Chechel LeFore. She moved to Milton-Freewater with her family
of seven siblings in 1921 and attended local schools.

It was there, through an introduction by her brother, that she met Edmund C. Allison, and after a courtship of some time, they were married on Oct. 16, 1939.

Shortly thereafter, the couple moved to Southern California,
where Ed began and completed a 30-year career with Union Oil. At one time, ViRae also worked for
Union Oil in the personnel department. After Ed’s retirement,
they golfed and traveled until they moved to Milton-Freewater in 1986. After an extended illness,
Ed passed away in 1992.

In 1995, ViRae met Peter Frisvold, who also shared her passion for golf and RV travel. Peter and ViRae exchanged vows and began a wonderful life together for the next 17 years. For many years, they were “snow
birds,” making an annual trip to Southern California to join friends and play golf for the winter.

ViRae was a remarkable athlete and was always seen as somewhat a “tom boy” from her earliest days on the Alberta prairie. She loved to hunt and fish and was legendary with her family and friends for killing a black bear with a single shot from a .22 rifle while berry picking as a young woman.

While living in the Riverside area of California, ViRae
excelled at bowling and golf, and added horseshoes and billiards to her activities. She was a member of many championship bowling teams and had the distinction
of bowling a perfect “300” game. She was also a senior women’s golf champion over several decades and was well known on courses around the Riverside area.
When she finally retired her clubs at the age of 91, she had achieved a career eight holes-in-one.

ViRae was known for her quick wit and humor and those around her would often receive small “gag” gifts and cards as well as nicknames. She took pride in remembering the birthdays of family and friends to the end of her life and greatly appreciated the visits of everyone who took the time to stop by her apartment at Wheatland Village. Her greatest tragedy was the loss
of her only child, Elvin “Pud” Allison, during the Korean War. He was always in her thoughts and his death weighed heavily on her Mother’s heart.

ViRae is survived by her “sweetheart,” Peter Frisvold,
at home; and his four sons, Gary (Barbara) Frisvold of Honolulu, Hawaii, Martin (Maureen) Frisvold of Seattle, Robin (Linda) Frisvold of Walla Walla, and Randy
(Phyllis) Frisvold of Chewelah, Wash.; and Peter’s sister,
Thelma Luckey, of Medical Lake, Wash.; sisters, Ann Otto of Milton Freewater and Darlene Hagstrom of College Place; sisters-in-law, Kathie McQueary of
Hood River, Ore., Marie Allison of St. Augustine, Fla., and LaVerne Lefore of Milton Freewater; nephews, Kenton LeFore of Los Angeles; Jon Bren (Wendye) of Walla Walla, R. Michael Bren (Carolyn) of Grandview, Wash.; Charles (Dot) Day of Brooksville, Fla., Michael McQueary of Portland, Dan (Cissy) Allison of Elkton, Fla., R.D. Hagstrom of College Place; nieces, Patricia
(Jerry) McQueary Hensen of St. George, Utah, and Melody (James) Hilton of Hood River, Ore.; she is also survived by other nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. A memorial service will follow in the Wheatland
Village chapel at 1:30 p.m. Viewing will be from 4 p.m.
to 7 p.m. at the Herring-Groseclose Funeral Home in
Walla Walla on Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Memorial donations
