Violet Marie Kongorski

January 9, 1922 — November 3, 2018

Milton-Freewater

Violet Marie Kongorski passed away on November 3, 2018 at Heritage Home in Milton Freewater Oregon.

Violet was born on January 9, 1922 in Leslie Arkansas, to Edward and Lida Watts.  She was the 2nd of 4 children born to them.  She went to small town schools and graduated from high school in Marshall Arkansas, and took a few college courses and became an Administrative Secretary.

At the age of 20 she married Raymond J Kongorski in Garden City Kansas on July 25, 1942, nine days after his 20th birthday because she refused to marry a teenager!  Violet and Raymond had 2 children Dale Kongorski born in 1943 and Patsy Hamel born in 1945.  Raymond served in the Army and afterwards became a teacher.  Violet worked as an Administrative Secretary to the President of Grason Stadler, a world renowned audiology equipment company based in Littleton, Massachusetts. She mastered the skill of short hand dictation a lost art of these days.

In 1978 Violet’s daughter Patsy died unexpectedly at the age of 33 so she and Raymond took in and raised Patsy's three children, ages 5, 8 and 9.  This was a challenge at the age of 56 to take on a new family but they did it without a second thought.

Violet retired from Grason Stadler at the age of 63 and she and Ray decided to dedicate a portion of their life to teaching in self-supporting Adventist schools.  So they sold their house and packed everything and moved.  Over the next 5 years they taught in Tennessee, Utah, and Washington. Violet taught typing and English.  They officially retired in 1990 in Athena, OR, where she enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning and spending time with the great grandkids. She loved to read to them and taught several of them how to read.

She is survived by her son Dale and Janean Kongorski, and their 4 children, Kenneth, Sheri, Holli and Kristi. The 3 grandchildren she raised, David, Jackson and Tami, along with 13 great-great grandchildren.

Violet was preceded in death by her husband Raymond after 68 ½ years of marriage, her daughter Patsy, and all of her siblings.
