Veta Marie Miller, 96, and a resident of Walla Walla WA, passed away on February 16, 2024. Veta was born near Kooskia ID, in 1927 to Amos and Odessa Wilkins. She graduated from Kamiah High School in 1944.
When Veta was 21 years old, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She met Ralph Jackson, and they were married after WWII was over; they lived in Kamiah. They later moved to Yakima, WA, where both her son, Terry, and daughter, Dena, were born. Ralph and Veta started their own business, “Jackson’s Boat Shop,” where they built or repaired boats and outboard motors. She and Ralph later divorced.
In 1971, she married Elmer Richard Miller and moved back to Kamiah when they retired. Veta and Richard enjoyed their retirement years with relatives and friends. They did lots of camping, riding snowmobiles, motorcycles, and ATVs, and she did volunteer work at Kamiah Bible Church, where she taught Sunday School and helped with Awana’s, a discipleship program for children. Richard passed away in 2009.
Veta moved to Walla Walla WA, in 2011 to be near her daughter. She made several trips later in life, including a cruise to Alaska, a train and bus trip to Eugene OR, and flew to Branson MO, as one of her bucket list trips. She enjoyed living at Affinity in Walla Walla and made many friends there.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Veta’s honor to the charity Samaritan’s Purse through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W Alder St, Walla Walla WA 99362. In addition, friends and family are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.herringgroseclose.com.
