Toama Larae Brunton

Toama LaRae Brunton lost her fight with cancer on September 5, 2011 in her home. Toama was born on January 4, 1975 at St. Mary Medical Center to Silas David Brunton and E. Diane Sumerlin. She grew up in the Walla Walla Valley except for a couple of years in Kelso, Washington. She graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1993. She gave birth to Coreena LeAnne Berry on March 9, 1994. She met her life partner Joel E. Thompson about a year later in 1995, and gave birth to Christopher Jevin Brunton, on November 22, 1996. Over the years she helped many children through good and bad times. She was a mother to Coreena and Chris and a mom to many. She found her calling as a CNA working in home care. Then found her nitch at the WWVA Medical Center in the psych and detox department. She enjoyed baking and trying new crafts. She also loved animals and always had two or more running, or flying, around. But her network of children was always her top priority. She also tried to take care of her mom.
Toama is survived by her daughter, Coreena LeAnne Berry; son, Christopher Jevin Brunton; adopted daughter, Heather A Patrick; life partner, Joel E Thompson; father, Silas David Brunton; mother, E. Diane Sumerlin; sisters, Tabitha K. Rousumny, Carrie Kaneastor, Milinda Hatley and Lydia Dryskill; brother, William A. and Kaisha Schubert and Jeff Coombs.
A celebration of life will be held at Rooks Park, Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 5 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Regional Cancer Center through Herring Funeral Home.
