Timothy Edwin Baird passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Walla Walla. Sundays in the fall were Tim's favorite days of the year as he was an avid football and Seahawks fan.
"Football is America's game," he would always say, and then talk about how he played football at a reform school on the Oregon Coast after getting into trouble in his younger days for taking unauthorized tours in people's house to just, "see what I could get away with," Tim would say.
Tim stopped getting in trouble and graduated from WA-Hi and then was drafted into the Navy at the end of the Vietnam War. After returning from his service time, much to his father's surprise, Tim finished schooling as a plumber and pipefitter in the Tri-Cities union hall. "Crap runs downhill, and payday is Friday," was Tim's saying that he would repeat when he would talk proudly about being in the trades.
Tim could have been a tour guide for the Walla Walla area and especially the blue mountains as he would recall trips up the mountain as a high schooler and being part of the boys at WA-Hi known as the "Mountain Men" for their love of having fun in the mountains and raising a little heck.
Tim also was very proud of all the services that are offered in Walla Walla for the homeless and less fortunate. "They take care of you here, always a hot meal for those in need," he would proclaim when talking about the Christian Aid Center or the other churches in town who helped him and others in their time of need.
Tim will be missed by those he met over the years in Walla Walla and by this author, who got to know him his last year or two of life.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home. Friends and family are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.herringgroseclose.com.
