Susan Ann Stinebaugh was born in Walla Walla on March 27, 1958, to George and Mary Lou Stinebaugh. She passed away on May 24, 2024, at the age of 66, due to a pulmonary embolism.
She lived all but one year in Walla Walla County, graduating from Walla Walla High School in 1976. Susan had a variety of jobs over the years, working at Friar Tuck’s, Taco Time, and The Blue Mountain Tavern, as a dental assistant, and a teaching assistant at Paine School. Susan found joy in working with preschoolers at Blue Ridge Elementary. After the birth of her son Travis, she attended Weekend College at Eastern Washington University to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 2002 with the dream of becoming a teacher.
With her love of children, she focused on special needs children, where she gracefully handled students with behavioral challenges at Ferndale Elementary School and John Sager Middle School.
Susan loved baking bread and cookies outside of work in her spare time. She also loved maintaining an immaculate garden, as well as a multitude of indoor plants. Her house was always warm and inviting, with the aroma of baked goods and candles. She had a knack for listening and always made everyone feel like family and that they could discuss anything with her.
Susan was very devoted to her family, moving back in with her parents to take care of them in their final years. She is survived by her son, Travis; brother, Jeff; nieces, Paige, Josephine, and Cheyanne; nephews, James and Shane; and aunt, Loraine Valencsin. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Joe.
A Rosary will be held in her honor at the Chapel of the Herring Funeral Home on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 6:00 PM, and a potluck-style Celebration of Life will be held at the Garden Center at Pioneer Park beginning at 4:00 PM on Friday, June 28, 2024.
