Suewilla (Sue) Irene Wright Woodfork, age 89, of Belchertown, MA, died on 27 April 2026 at Eagle Springs Memory Care in College Place, WA. Sue was born in Roxie, MS where she graduated from high school. She attended Tougaloo College in Tougaloo, MS, graduating in 1955, and she received a master’s degree from Denver University School of Library and Information Science. Sue returned to Tougaloo College as a librarian for two years before moving to Northampton, MA to work at the Veterans Administration Hospital. It was there that she met Nelson C. Woodfork Sr. (Woody) and they married in 1965. They had a daughter, Jacqueline, who joined Sue’s “bonus children,” Nelson Junior and Nancy. She loved her job as a librarian at Mark’s Meadow Laboratory School of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst where she made many life-long friends. She took an early retirement to care for her ill husband who died in 1998. She joined her daughter in Walla Walla, WA in 2014.

In addition to her children, she is survived by four grandchildren, Joshua, Peter (Rebecca), Rebecca (Jennifer), and Shicoren as well as great grandchildren Makena, Everly, and Aaliyah, and daughter-in-law, Ann. Sue is survived by her siblings Agnes Mayberry, Rebecca Wright, A.J. Wright, and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Sue is predeceased by siblings Mary Lee Hunt, Hattie Brown, Pinkie Miller, Katie Butler, Catharine Calhoun, Robert Wright, George Wright, and Ralph Wright.

Sue was a voracious reader, great cook, and avid traveler. She greatly enjoyed visiting new places, meeting new people, and trying different cuisines. One of her favorite places was Shelburne, Nova Scotia, Canada, the birthplace of her husband’s mother, Agnes Jacklin Woodfork, where she spent many summers. Sue greatly enjoyed spending time with her family and numerous friends.

There will be a service at Grace Episcopal Church in Amherst, MA on August 14, 2026, at 10:00 AM. A reception will follow.

Donations in her memory may be made to Tougaloo College or a charity of choice.
