Sidney A. Anderson

Longtime Walla Walla resident, Sidney A. Anderson, 98, died at Wheatland Village January 4, 2014.

Sidney was born in Wilkesen, Washington, November 5, 1915 to Tobie J. and Signa Iversen Anderson. He attended Stadium High School in Tacoma, Washington, and received degrees from the University of Washington and the University of Washington Law School. He served as Lieutenant Commander in the Navy during World War II.

He and his wife, Jane L. Anderson, whom he married in 1941, moved to Walla Walla in 1950 to establish Graves-Anderson Pontiac. He later worked for Baker-Boyer Bank, retiring as Trust Officer and Senior Vice President in 1977. He had three children: Judy, Kathy, and David and was a devoted husband and father; a faithful member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and a passionate fly fisherman who taught fly casting and fly tying at Walla Walla Community College.


He is survived by his daughter, Judith E. Smith (Duane A. Ewers), son, David L. Anderson (Cathy Coverston Anderson); son-in-law, Jan W. Jansen; grandchildren, Tobie Smith (Katie); Katie Jansen Craft (Loren); Jan-David Jansen; and Katherine, Carter, and Jacob Anderson; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane L. Anderson and his daughter Kathleen H. Jansen.


A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on March 1, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA.
