Shirley Ann Criss

Shirley Ann Criss, 80, wife of Eugene O. Criss, passed away on Jan. 10, 2014.

Born in Albuquerque, N.M., to Orville F. and Thelma O. Moore, Shirley moved in 1948 to Walla Walla, where she graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1952. She married her high school sweetheart, Eugene, on July 28, 1952. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, and was the center of a large and close family throughout her life. A longtime supporter of JROTC and the Walla Walla High School Rifle Team, Shirley enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery, genealogy, root beer and sports. She enriched the lives of all who knew her.

Shirley is survived by husband, Eugene; sister, Nancy J. Hanson; brother, Charles W. Moore; five children, Teresa Paul, Debra Criss, Nancy Griffin (Jesse), Jeffrey Criss (Brenda), of Walla Walla, and Cynthia Stevens of Fife, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Brandi Schmitz, Nicole Stevens, Tiana Stevens, Nicholas Griffin, Michael Griffin, Joey Criss, Amber Criss; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Thelma Moore; brother, Orville Moore, Jr.; and niece, Patricia Hanly. She was very close to her son-in-law, Patrick M. Paul, who also preceded her in death.

A viewing is scheduled for 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at Herring-Groseclose Funeral Home. A graveside service will be officiated by Chaplain Ben Vegors at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions in may be made to the Blue Mountain Humane Society or Providence St. Mary’s Cancer Center through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
