Sharon Lee Renick was born on June 25, 1932, and passed away on January 27, 2026.
Born to Dale Hastings and Madeleine (Crosby) Hastings, Sharon and her two sisters were raised near the Hastings homestead on Locher Road. Hers being one of the last classes to graduate from grade school at the Valley Chapel School, she then graduated from Wa-Hi in 1950.
Sharon loved the country life and close family ties. She frequently spoke of all the family history and tales she learned while working in the kitchen with her mother and grandmother. Her love of the kitchen was ingrained at an early age and in the warmth of those family times. The days she spent at home canning fruits, jams, and jellies carried over into her adult life until her health no longer allowed it. Friends who dropped by could always count on a piece of pie or cake to go with their coffee. She just loved keeping busy in the kitchen.
Sharon always had a job. Working at the old Stateline Grocery store and as an on-call Mail Carrier on the old Lowden route. However, she is probably best remembered for the many years she worked as a checker at Wades Thriftway at the Big Y shopping center. After her retirement, she spoke fondly of "her customers," watching children come through her check-out line with their parents, watching them grow, and then bringing their own children through.
Sharon was also active in the agricultural community. For years, she was deeply involved while all her children and grandchildren took part in 4-H and FFA activities. She would say, "Oh, that's just part of it." That is why she was so surprised and a little embarrassed when the Walla Walla FFA made her an Honorary Chapter Farmer for her efforts in helping the Livestock judging team travel around to the different events.
Sharon is survived by her son, Monty Renick (Marianne); daughter, Sharrie Copeland (Terry); five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sharon is preceded in death by her husband of 71 years and the love of her life, Roy A. Renick; her son, Todd L. Renick; her sisters, Carol June Nichols Scott and Patricia (Patty) Elaine Franklin Benzel Pray.
Graveside service will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Mountain View Cemetery Walla Walla WA.
There is no real need for flowers, but if you are inclined, a donation to the Valley Chapel Community Hall or Milton-Freewater Junior Show would make her smile.
