Sara Anne Cole Lightfoot passed away
on Jan. 27, 2016, at home surrounded
by her family.
She was born on Feb. 3,
1973, in Santa Clara, Calif., to David Lee Cole and
Anita Myra Bleeck. She grew up in Beaverton, Ore.,
graduating from Beaverton High School in 1991.
She
attended Whitman College, where she met her future
husband, Todd Lightfoot. She graduated from Whitman
College in 1995 with her B.A. in sociology. She
obtained her Ph.D. in psychology in 2004 from Hartford
University in Minnesota.
Sara worked for CPS before becoming an independent
contractor with the Waitsburg School District,
counseling and guiding children until ill health forced
her early retirement.
Sara and Todd eloped on July 13, 1996, to Coeur
d’Alene, Idaho. Together they had five children.
Sara was very involved in foster parenting and helping
children in need. In her spare time she loved to
make her own brand of soaps and beaded jewelry,
which she sold at the Walla Walla Farmers Market
for several years. Her own unique creations included
candles, lighting fixtures and home décor, which she
often shared with her friends and family. She was
also an accomplished seamstress.
Sara treasured her
relationship with her family and friends. She enjoyed
special shopping trips with her daughter and 4-wheeling
at the cabin with her boys. She was a loving and
selfless wife and a devoted mother. She had a zest for
life and will be missed by all who knew her.
Sara is survived by her husband, Todd Lightfoot; and
their children, Tucker, Hannah, Tate, Aiden and Tanka;
her step-daughter, Larissa Mercado all of Walla
Walla; her brother and sister-in-law, Seth and Lisa
Cole and their children, Joshua, Katelyn and Noah
of Pleasanton, Calif.; her parents-in-law, Lonny and
Teri Lightfoot of Walla Walla; brother-in-law, Shaun
Lightfoot of Walla Walla.
She was preceded in death
by her parents.
There are not enough kind words to describe this
wonderful person who we know as “mom, my best
friend, and the most loving wife I could ever have!”
