Ruth Mildred Hansen

August 13, 1914 — February 6, 2013

Ruth was the widow of Delbert Hansen. They were married 68 years. Additional survivors include son, Paul, and daughter-in-law, Judy of Spokane, WA. and daughter, Joan Jolly of Lynnwood, WA. She was the doting grandmother of five and beloved great-grandmother of eight.

Ruth was born and raised in Tacoma, WA. She earned her bachelor’s degree in home economics from University of Puget Sound and her master’s in education degree from Pacific Lutheran University. She retired in 1976 as head of the home economics department at Walla Walla Community College.

During her career, Ruth was active in Delta Kappa Gamma, teacher’s honorary society, Professional Home Economists Association, and Zonta International. She was always an active volunteer with any interest that her children and husband pursued. After they retired, Ruth and Del volunteered at the Fort Walla Walla Museum and for Catholic Community Services.

Ruth lived the last two years at her life at Country Lane Adult Family Home. We thank Carol for the love and comfort that our mother enjoyed there.

A private family graveside was held. A memorial service to honor Ruth’s 98 years of live will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Ft. Walla Walla Museum through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA. .
