Ruth was born July 17, 1925, in Walla Walla to Henry and Eva Elizabeth (Frank) Schneidmiller.
She attended local schools and graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1943. During her senior year, she was a secretary at Falkenberg’s Jewelers, where she met her husband-to-be, Jerry L. Cundiff Jr. They were married in Walla Walla on July 24, 1949, and celebrated their 65th anniversary this year.
She was a member of the College Place Presbyterian Church, lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi and Junior Club of Walla Walla, a member of P.E.O. Chapter BI, Lady Elks and Wa-Hi Alumni Association. Ruth was a past member of the Order of Eastern Star and was awarded the Rainbow for Girls Grand Cross of Color. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross of Walla Walla and served as the Blood Drive Chair from 1961 to 1965. She also served as secretary of the Green Park PTA and Whitman Guild and participated in Bible Study Fellowship.
Ruth spent summer weekends with the family boating on the Columbia River and also liked to cross country ski and bicycle, as well as to downhill ski at Spout Springs. She and Jerry enjoyed regular trips to the Oregon coast, travel to several foreign countries and winter escapes to Maui.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry; two children, daughter, Diane and husband James Weil of Salem, Ore., and son, Jerry “Skip” Cundiff and daughter-in-law Shauna Cundiff of Walla Walla; two granddaughters, Kimberlee and husband Greg Jones of Boulder, Colo., and Kari and husband Mike Lovely of Salem, Ore.; two grandsons, Bryan Weil of Dundee, Ore., and Jesse Cundiff of Walla Walla; and six great- grandchildren. Survivors also include a brother, Samuel and wife Catherine Schneidmiller; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by sisters Mollie and Marie Schneidmiller, Lydia Stewart and Elsie K. Jones; brothers, Henry, William, David, Karl and John Schneidmiller; and an infant brother.
A family graveside service will be held Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery followed by an 11 a.m. memorial service at the College Place Presbyterian Church. A luncheon will be held in the fellowship hall following the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of choice through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W.
