Russell Charles Dutton passed away peacefully June 14, 2014 at Park Manor with family by his side. He was 89.
Russell was born March 7, 1925 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The family settled in Prescott, Washington, where he attended school until he entered the Navy at the age of 19. He served honorably in the South Pacific Islands during World War II providing maintenance on aircraft. Russ received the Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign, World War II Victory, and Philippine Liberation Medals.
Russ returned to Prescott and married the love of his life, Harriet Putman. They married October 1, 1948 in Waitsburg, Washington. Russ and Harriet had four children. He was a loving and dedicated family man.
He worked for the Washington State Department of Transportation for 35 years as a Maintenance Lead-man. He was well known for his skill as a “blade man.” After his retirement, he worked for various farmers during harvest.
Russ was preceded in death by his father and mother, Arthur and Violet Dutton; his brother, Art Dutton; sister, Ila Vargas; and brother, Billie Dutton. Surviving are his wife Harriet; daughter, Kay Becker of Spokane Valley; and sons, Jay and wife Evie, Bob and wife, Esther, and Mike Dutton, all of Walla Walla; eleven grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
Viewing & visitation will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA. The Funeral Service will be held at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, Friday, June 20, 2014 at 10:00 am. Interment will be at the Ivy Cemetery in Prescott. Memorial contributions may be made to Prescott High School Alumni Association or charity of your choice through the funeral home.
