Rose Marie Moore

Rose Marie Moore passed away on December 21, 2022, at the age of 92. Known to her grandchildren as “Grams” and “Grandma Flower”, she had a feisty and generous spirit. She cherished time with her family, especially enjoying the cabin at Diamond Lake that her parents, Marie and Edmund Froats, originally owned. She was a lifelong Washingtonian although she loved to travel all over the world and experience new places and people.

Rose Marie met her husband, Harlan Moore, while attending Washington State University. Together they had five children. After divorcing, she worked as a librarian for the Corp of Engineers until her retirement.

Her senior years were filled with adventure and happiness after meeting her partner, Dean Smith, at a Quest class (Adventures in learning for ages 50+) through Walla Walla Community College. They took many trips together and valued each other’s company for over 20 years.

She will be remembered for her exuberant approach to life. One grandchild stated she was my bat-s#*t crazy grandma, and I loved her for that.

Rose Marie is survived by her four children, Julie Moore Matthews (Skip), Ken Moore (Anne), Mary Magleby, and Jim Moore (Anna); her sister, Jean Kress; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Bob Moore; her brother, Wayne Froats; and her partner, Dean Smith.

Memorial mass will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 10:30 AM, at Assumption Catholic Church, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Assumption Parish Center. Graveside service will be Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 10:00 AM, at Mountain View Cemetery.
