Rodger was born Aug. 3, 1945, in Louisville, Ky. At
the age of 5 he came to Walla Walla by train with his
mother and two brothers. He attended local grade
schools, Garrison Junior High and Walla Walla High
School. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Navy.
He married Janet Loney on Oct. 14, 1964. After 10
years in the Navy he was medically discharged because
of asthma. He came home and went to work for
the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. For 22 years, he
commuted back and forth from McNary Dam. He retired
on April 30, 2005. Mechanics was his vocation
and avocation. His dream was to restore an old car.
He enjoyed bowling. We bowled for 30 years as the
“No-No’s” with Dick and Carolyn Rand.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie; and
his son, Rodger Wayne Jr.; his parents; and his brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; his sons, Mike
and Chris; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;
and his sister, Sherri Mims of Petaluma, Calif.
There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, April
11, at Assumption Church Hall from 2 to 4 p.m.
