Robert Strozinsky Jr., age 96, passed away on February 2, 2020, in Walla Walla.
Robert was born on November 26, 1923 in La Crosse, Wisconsin to Robert and Grace M. Kachel Strozinsky, Sr. He had three sisters: Marion, Joanne and Nancy; and two brothers: Raymond and Richard. Robert moved to Walla Walla with his family in 1938 where he graduated from Walla Walla High School and then from Oregon State College (now Oregon State University) in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering.
Robert served in the U.S. Army from May 1943 to April 1946 with nine months in the Philippine Islands. He was a structural engineer with the Walla Walla District Corps of Engineers from 1952 to his retirement in 1980. He was a long time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 992 in Walla Walla.
Robert enjoyed traveling extensively in his motorhome, driving country back roads in his jeep and hiking in Alaska, Canada, the western states and Mexico with his companion, Ina Warner of Walla Walla. He was an avid rock collector; hauling home rocks from his travels. He was also an incredible gardener. Robert enjoyed fishing with his daughter Kathy; longtime friend Brad Hendricks and his wife Tracy, all of Walla Walla.
Survivors include daughter Kathy Starr and friend Debbie Fullen of Walla Walla. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
A Graveside Service and Burial will be held on Monday, February 10, 2020, at Mountain View Cemetery Veterans Section starting at 2:00 pm. Pastor Steve Morris will officiate.
