Bob Klicker. An amazing man, husband, father, FIL, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away at 95 years old. He worked hard. He loved deeply and was passionate about what was best for the youth of this community. He never wavered in his belief that kids are to be treasured and encouraged to discover their value and inner strength.
On September 9, 2022, Robert Allen Klicker was taken to heaven to be with his Savior Jesus and his family.
Bob was born July 30, 1927, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla, Washington to Jacob E. and Ethel L. (Poirier) Klicker.
Growing up, he worked on the family Homestead on Klicker Mountain with his four brothers and one sister, where he picked berries, rode horses, and played in the mountains.
As an accomplished high school athlete in baseball, football, and track, he was inducted into the Walla Walla High School Blue Devil Hall of Fame. He was honored to share this award with his brothers Dave and Del. After high school graduation in 1944, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served in Guam. While in Guam he had a vision that he would marry a very special girl. On January 2, 1955, he did just that. He married Nancy L. Brown whom he met when she was working as a strawberry picker. Together they worked hard, laughed often, supported each other, shared much love with family and friends, enjoyed travelling and raised their 3 sons and grandchildren for 67 years.
Bob was very active in many national, state, county, and community organizations. He was a member of Walla Walla County Cattlemen’s Assoc., Farm Bureau and Odd Fellows. He had a passion for the Walla Walla Valley and for his country. He was always striving to protect and improve the community and to foster a positive environment for the youth of Walla Walla. He grew up in and was a member of Pioneer Methodist Church and was very involved in the Walk to Emmaus.
Bob was a rancher, farmer, innovator and entrepreneur. He was a partner in Klicker Brothers and Sons with best friend and cousin Rich Klicker, his dad Jake E. Klicker, and uncle Delbert Klicker Sr. As a team they raised strawberries, wheat, cattle, and timber. Bob loved to try new ideas in farming and to start new businesses to give everyone in the Klicker family an enterprise that they could build as their own. His ventures included importing and introducing Simmental cattle to North America, and having Simmental bulls for stud; finding new avenues for marketing strawberries, starting an ag-lime business, establishing multiple cherry orchards, building mountain recreation cabins, and co-writing books.
The Blue Mountains was where Bob loved to be; whether hunting, hiking, horseback riding, or working. His true passion, though, was his love of his family and the youth of Walla Walla. He always wanted to take care of the entire Klicker Family and made them his priority. In addition, he believed that the Klicker Strawberry enterprise was very important to the community. Bob felt that the strawberry farm provided a venue to give kids an opportunity to learn work values and life lessons.
He is survived by his wife Nancy L. Klicker; 3 sons and their wives: Kirk (Nancy A.), Kraig (Charlotte), and Mark (Lisa) Klicker; 8 grandchildren Travis (Chelsea), Nick (Hillary), Natalie (William), Kyla (Collin), Hope (Kramer), Jason (Jenn), Jami, and Eric (Madison); and 10 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brothers Jake, Don, Del and Dave Klicker and sister Ruth Philips.
Memorial Contribution can be to Fort Walla Walla Museum, Christian Aid Center, or a Charity of the donor’s choice through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home.
His celebration of life will be October 8, 2022, from 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM at Pioneer United Methodist Church, 209 E. Birch Street, Walla Walla.
