Robert G. Cortinas, 66, of Lake Oswego, Ore., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014. Robert was born Nov. 2, 1948, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Miguel Pacheco Cortinas and Maria Manuela “Emma” Gonzalez Cortinas.
Robert grew up in Walla Walla. He graduated from Walla Walla High School. Robert proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1968 and served two tours in Vietnam. He received an honorable discharge from the Army in 1974. Robert continued his education and graduated from Walla Walla College.
Upon seeing her, Robert told Ofelia Garza that he would marry her one day. They were married in front of their family and friends in October of 1976. Robert was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He started the first Spanish language branch in Walla Walla, he was involved in more than 100 baptisms.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Miguel Pacheco Cortinas; two brothers, Victor Flores, Johnny Cortinas; and a sister, Irma Cortinas Dobson.
In his memory, Robert leaves behind his spouse and best friend, Ofelia Cortinas; and his proud daughter, Leticia Cortinas. Robert is survived and remembered by his mother, Emma; and his siblings, Jesse Gonzalez, Lydia Cortinas Wood, Willie Cortinas, Yolanda Cortinas Manuel, Micaela Gonzalez, Hilda Aleman, Ruben Cortinas, David Cortinas, Diana Cortinas, Mike Cortinas; his brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Viewing and visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m. at The LDS Church, 1821 S. 2nd Ave. A gravesite burial service will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, 2120 South 2nd Ave. Memorial
