Robert Douglas “Doug” Case of Stateline passed away on March 24, 2026, at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle.
Doug was born to Philip and Patricia Dixson Case on January 18, 1967, in Walla Walla. His young years were spent on the family farm on Stateline Rd, where he attended Umapine School and graduated from Mac-Hi in 1984.
In 1991, Doug married the love of his life, Virginia Ann “Ginger” Peal, in Pendleton, and in August of this year, they would have celebrated their 35th anniversary! Together they raised four children -- Samantha, Tristan, GraceAnn, and Reagan.
One of the high points of Doug’s high school days was earning his American Farmer degree in FFA. His love for travel began at this time, too, when he went on a Work Experience Abroad trip to Switzerland. He carried this love of travel and adventure with his wife and kids, both nationally and internationally. He attended Walla Walla Community College, receiving his AA degree in Agriculture, after which he formed a farming partnership with his grandparents, Bob and Louise Dixson (Dixson Case Farms). When his grandparents decided to retire, he chose to explore other interests and went to work for Pendleton Grain Growers in Milton-Freewater for a time, after which he worked for Jim’s Supply, selling fencing and vineyard supplies. Doug was also a fantastic cook and for several years he ran a weekend catering service (Grandma’s Farm & Country Catering) using Gramma Louise’s famous recipes. Many people had the pleasure of sampling great cuisine, served on linen tablecloths in the middle of a vineyard!
In 2011, Doug finally found his niche when he went to work for his beloved Columbia REA in Walla Walla as an Energy Efficiency & Marketing Specialist. In 2017, Doug became Manager of Communications & Community Engagement, a position he held until his death. He loved his association with the public and all the different people and businesses Columbia REA serves.
Another position that was near and dear to his heart was his tenure as chairman of the College Place School District board for 10 years, where he was instrumental, along with other board members, in bringing in a high school to College Place. Also, during those years, a new Davis Elementary School was built, and Sager Middle School was renovated.
Doug was an avid supporter of youth throughout the valley, serving as leader of the Valley Chapel 4-H club for several years. He also helped out at the Walla Walla County Fair and Frontier Days by running pig boards, guiding 4-Hers with their projects, representing Columbia REA as a buyer for market animals, and anything else he could help with.
He was a long-time member of Life Church, which was very important to him. His faith was always strong, but became even stronger during his years of health struggles.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Virginia (Ginger), and their four children. Eldest daughter, Samantha Case (Cameron Lewis) of Falkirk, Scotland, son, Tristan, and daughter, GraceAnn of Walla Walla, son Reagan (Madi) of College Place; mother, Patricia and stepfather, Jack Cobb of Stateline; sister, Lisa Seibly (Matt) of Anatone; mother and father-in-law; Peggy and Bill Dennis of College Place; father and mother-in-law; Bill and Kathy Peal of Pendleton; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Philip Case (Marsha), and his grandparents, Bob and Louise Dixson, and Albert and Dorothy Whitehead.
