Rita Delores Hermann

Longtime area resident, Rita D. Hermann passed away peacefully on July 30, 2018 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, she was 83 years old.

Rita was born June 14, 1935 to Roy D. and Marguerite (Pflepseen) Sanders in Colfax, Washington.  She graduated from Colfax High School in May of 1953 and worked for the telephone company in Colfax and later in Walla Walla.  She met Dick Hermann on a blind date in Colfax, while he was working for the Corp. of Engineers and they married on November 9, 1957.  They were married for 52 years.

Together, they made their home in Milton-Freewater, Oregon and raised three children; Carl, Gary and Karen.  Rita worked in the medical insurance field and retired from Walla Walla Valley Medical which later became Regence Blue Shield.   She and Dick enjoyed attending Seattle Seahawk games, snow-birding in Arizona, camping trips and spending time with their family and friends.  She was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Milton-Freewater.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Carl and Veronica Hermann of Milton-Freewater and their children; Matthew, Nathan and Katie and great-granddaughter Delaney.  Her daughter and son in law, Karen and Chris Isely of Vancouver, Wa. Their children, Justin and Trevor and great-grandsons Augy and Asher; she is also survived by numerous Sister and Brother in laws, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dick (‘10), son Gary (’08); as well as her brother Marion and Sister Evelyn.

Viewing and Visitation will be held at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home from 4-7pm Friday, August 10, 2018.  The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church 722 W. Alder Street Walla, Saturday, August 11, at 9:00am, followed by The Funeral Mass at 10:00am.  Interment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery; a Celebration of Life gathering will be held at her son’s home in Milton-Freewater.
