Richard Loren Kaping passed away in College Place on Oct. 24, 2015. A celebration of life will be held in Heubach Chapel on the campus of Walla Walla University on Nov. 21, 2015, at 3:30 p.m.
He was born Aug. 18, 1941, in Leavenworth, Wash., to Elmer and Rosalie Kaping of Peshastin, Wash. He attended Columbia Academy in Spangle, Wash., graduating in 1959, and Walla Walla College, graduating in 1965. He met, Glenice Lukens in 1961, and they were married Sept. 1, 1963, in San Diego. They were married for 50 years, until Glenice passed away 2014.
He spent his professional life as a music teacher in Missouri, Idaho and Colorado, and as a professor of aviation maintenance in Michigan, where he retired in 2004. He and Glenice moved back to College Place in 2009.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Kaping of College Place; his sister, Pat Gossage of Anacortes, Wash.; brothers, Randy Kaping of Walla Walla and Tyler Kaping of Hermiston.
He will always be remembered as an outgoing, kind, supportive, gifted teacher of music and aviation; always working on projects from wood to motorcycles. His passion for aviation and learning will be greatly missed.
