Dad’s Obituary
Richard Carter, 74, passed away at his home in Prescott Washington on June 6th , from cancer.
Richard was born in Harlingen, Texas on May 15, 1939 to his parents, Porter and Lillie Carter.
As a young child, Richard and his family moved to the Pacific Northwest where his family settled at Ayer, Washington. Richard and his siblings, Freda, Ron, and Bill grew up at Ayer, located on the Snake River, before the dams were built. The river was wild in those days and the Carter kids had many wonderful experiences together.
He graduated from high school in Prescott, WA in 1958 where he lettered in football and baseball. Also in 1958, he married Patty Farmer and they had three children; Mike, Greg, and Karin.
Richard started working for the Union Pacific railroad in 1959 and worked as a brakeman for 42 years before retiring in 2001.
Richard married Jodi Kennedy on January 18, 1979 in Walla Walla, WA.
Richard learned to fish at an early age and loved to share the many stories he had about going fishing with his father, brothers, and sister. He passed his fishing knowledge to his children and grandchildren. These experiences are cherished memories for all. He also loved to camp with friends, take trips to the beach, and watch football and baseball games.
Richard loved to spend time with his family, friends, and dogs Emma, Hoss, and Holle. He loved to share the stories of his childhood and had a great sense of humor with a hearty laugh.
Richard is survived by his wife Jodi of Prescott, sons Mike Carter of Salem OR, Greg Carter (Dianne) of San Ramon, CA, daughter Karin (Chris) Bowman of Walla Walla, grandchildren Lindsey Jones (Craig), Brad Bowman (Amy), Jeremy Carter, Katie Carter, Ally Carter, great grandchildren Kooper and Jaxon Jones, sister Freda Thompson of Walla Walla, brothers Ron Carter (Joyce) of Milton Freewater, Bill Carter of Waitsburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Porter and Lillie Carter, brother in law Lon (Tommy) Thompson, and sister in law Sharon Carter.
Herring Groseclose Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements.
A celebration of Richard’s life will take place on June 15th at St. Francis Catholic Church, Parish Hall , 722 West Alder, at 12:30pm.
