"Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, and very dear."

Raymond Charles Russell of Walla Walla passed away early November 25, 2022, at the age of 89. He was born in Walla Walla to William and Elizabeth Gradwahl Russell as the youngest of twin brothers. He graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1951 and attended Whitman College until he joined the United States Air Force as Airman 1st Class, stationed in Naknek Air Force Base, Alaska. He was relieved of duty from Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane, Washington, in 1957.

Upon release from the Air Force, he worked for the family at Russell's Furniture Store in Walla Walla. He then started a used car business, Ray's Eastgate Auto, and continued it until he retired in 2018. Ray loved traveling with his dear wife and their beloved dogs, with the Elks 287 and Good Sam Many Waters travel group. He never knew a stranger and would talk to anyone about anything. He loved to tell jokes, play golf, poker, and the harmonica.

Ray is survived by his wife, Joanne Stiller Lathrop Russell of 27 years; three sons, Steven/Karen, Raymond/Debra, and William (Bill)/Ann; Son-in-law, Ronnie Henderson; Stepdaughter, Kelli Lathrop Johnson; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. He is preceded in death by his twin brother, Loren; son, Mark; and stepdaughter, Laurie Henderson.

There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
