Phyllis Jeane Madison

Phyllis Jeane Madison, 82, of Walla Walla, Washington passed away on May 30, 2014 at Park Manor.

Phyllis was born in Yakima, Washington on May 26, 1932 to Robert & Isabelle Wert. She graduated from Yakima High School and then worked as an operator for the telephone company. She later went on to marry Miles Madison on September 19, 1953.

After meeting her sweetheart in 1951, Miles was sent off to the Air Force training in Cheyenne, Wyoming. During a leave in 1952, he returned to Phyllis & proposed in Yakima. Shortly thereafter, she followed Miles to Germany to be wed and live in Landstuhl, Germany. For three years, the couple took advantage of living abroad and spent much time traveling & enjoying Europe. Upon their 40th wedding anniversary, Miles & Phyllis made a return vacation to Germany to visit their old home and friends.

They returned home from Germany after Miles’ discharge from the Air Force and settled back in Yakima, Washington where Phyllis worked for a local bank. After the arrival of her first child, Phyllis quit her job at the bank & became a full time homemaker. During which time, Miles & Phyllis were blessed with two more children.

Phyllis also made use of her time at home through her volunteer work. She served on the advisory board for the Salvation Army of Walla Walla and spent much time volunteering for their Dress A Living Doll project.

Her parents, 5 siblings & 2 sons, Brent & Martin Madison precede her in death. Phyllis is surviving by her husband of 60 years, Miles; daughter & son-in-law, Jay & Cynthia Tucker of Walla Walla; 3 grandchildren, Katherine & Emily Tucker of Walla Walla and Brandon Madison; brother, Jack Wert and numerous nieces & nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or the Blue Mountain Humane Society through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA.
