MOBLEY, Pauline Florence "Nanny" - A Life Remembered
Pauline Florence Mobley, affectionately known as "Nanny," gracefully departed this world on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at the age of 94. Born as Pauline F. McArthur to her parents Paul and Alice (Gentry) McArthur in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, their journey brought them to Wallula, Washington, in the 1930s, alongside her beloved sister Virginia Ruth Reed. It was there that she graduated from Columbia High School.
In 1948, Pauline embarked on a new chapter as she married Leonard W. Mobley, a union that filled her life with love, purpose, and family. Pauline's role as a devoted wife, nurturing mother, cherished grandmother, and proud great-grandmother was a cornerstone of her identity. Her warmth and caring nature touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Dedicated to her community, Pauline found fulfillment as a school district cook, diligently serving the cafeterias of Berney, Edison, Prospect Point, Paine, and Sharpstein from 1967 until her well-deserved retirement in 1990. Her culinary skills extended beyond schools; she ventured into the entrepreneurial world during her retirement by opening the Gateway Tavern in Waitsburg, WA. Embracing life's diversity, she also embraced the thrill of horse racing as a horse owner, reveled in the excitement of trips to Reno, enjoyed rockhounding, and delighted in preparing Sunday suppers that became cherished traditions among family and friends.
Pauline's memory is held dear by her sister, Virginia Reed, and her legacy lives on through her children, Linda L. Mobley, Debbie S. Mobley, Janet J. Mobley, and Paul W. Mobley. Her adored grandchildren carry forward the profound love she shared with her family: Christian VanDonge and his wife Stephanie, Sara VanDonge and her husband Paul Boen, Karie Alexenko, Becky Benzel, Ryan Harshfield and his wife Danielle, Skyler Barnett, Kady Tucker and her husband Pat, and Mason Clark. The circle of love extends further to her great-grandchildren Natalie, Noah, Jaycee, Sheldon, Jayla, Braylee, Presten, Kacen, Jagger, and numerous nieces and nephews, each a testament to her enduring spirit.
In her final hours, Pauline was surrounded by the compassionate care of Park Manor Rehabilitation Center and Providence St. Mary Medical Center. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff for their unwavering support.
