Patrick Eugene Mohney

Patrick E. Mohney, 72, passed away peacefully at his home in Waitsburg, Washington, on June 25, 2026, just after sunrise.

Born on October 9, 1953, Pat lived a life defined by strength, grit, and an enduring love for the outdoors. He believed in hard work, valued honesty, loyalty, and family, and found his greatest joy beneath the open skies and in the mountains he called home.

A gifted athlete, Pat was a standout football player whose talent and determination earned him the opportunity to play for Whitman College. The toughness, discipline, and quiet confidence he displayed on the football field remained hallmarks of his character throughout his life.

At heart, Pat was a cowboy. In his younger years, he could often be found on horseback in the mountains, hunting, hauling salt for wildlife, or herding cattle across the rugged country he knew so well. He embraced a life of self-reliance and adventure, finding peace in the saddle and purpose in caring for the land and its wildlife.

Pat’s love of the outdoors never faded. He was an avid hunter who treasured time spent in the mountains, looked forward to fishing trips to Alaska, and in later years, enjoyed exploring the backcountry in his UTV. Whether chasing elk, casting a line in Alaska, or discovering a new mountain trail, Pat felt most at home surrounded by nature.

Pat was a man who believed that honest work was something to be proud of. Throughout his life, he worked as a farmer, a truck driver, and a grader operator for the Walla Walla County Road Department. He retired from the Road Department after years of dedicated service, earning the respect of his coworkers through his strong work ethic and dependability.

More importantly, Pat was the kind of man who never hesitated to help someone in need. Whether it meant cutting down trees, building a shop, fixing equipment, or simply lending a hand, if you asked for help, Pat was there. He gave freely of his time and talents, never expecting recognition in return. His generosity, quiet humility, and willingness to serve others are among the qualities that will be remembered most.

Those who knew Pat will remember his steady character, his quiet sense of humor, and his generous heart. To many, he was more than a friend or neighbor- he was “Uncle Pat” or simply “Grandpa,” titles he cherished as much as any other.

Pat passed peacefully in the home he loved in Waitsburg, Washington, just after sunrise- a fitting farewell for a man whose life was so deeply connected to the rhythms of the outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Red and Maxine Mohney; sisters-in-law, Karen and Laurie; and his brother-in-law Joe.

Pat is survived by his son, Colter Mohney, and Colter’s children, Brayden, Ava, and Reid, and by his great-granddaughter, Huxley, daughter of Brayden; his son, Luke Mohney (Jocelyn), and their children, Caitlin, Logan, Paige, and Griffin; his sister, Chris, his brothers, Ray and Kelly; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and the many people who lovingly called him “Uncle Pat” or “Grandpa”.

Pat’s legacy lives on in every mountain trail he explored, every hunting camp shared with loved ones, every fishing story from Alaska, every road he helped build, and every life he touched through his kindness and generosity. He leaves behind an example of what it means to work hard, love deeply, help freely, and live with quiet integrity. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
