Patrick Donald Donnelly was born on January 7, 1938, to Richard Henry and Lucille Donnelly, and passed away on January 3, 2019, at his home, surrounded by family and hunting trophies.
While in high school, he was an AAU champion boxer and continued to box after graduating from Waitsburg High school in 1958. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 - 1965 as weapons repair and development specialist. He continued to box while in the Army. In 1960, he was deployed to Inchon, Korea, met and married his wife Kil-Ja Kim in 1963 and raised three children together until her death in 1978. Upon discharge in 1965, he and his family settled in Marina, CA until 1981.
He worked as a quality inspector at Firestone from 1965 -1981. In 1981 Patrick relocated to Waitsburg, with his two youngest children. He worked as a warehouse foreman from 1982-1988 at Smith Frozen Foods. He then was a warehouse lead at American Fine Foods until his retirement in 1993.
Patrick’s greatest hobby was hand loading ammunition, shooting and hunting. He has hunted in California, Wyoming, Idaho and the Blue mountains in Washington State. He hunted pheasants, quail, dear, elk, antelope, big horn sheep and wild boar. He was a lifetime member of the NRA.
His greatest joy in life was his five grandchildren, Jonathon, Emeline, Tristan, Isolda and his namesake Patricia. He treasured time spent conversing and interacting with the grandchildren and enjoyed giving them gifts most of all.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Kil-Ja; son-inlaw, Jed Sept; his sisters, Mary Hopkins, Elma Brown, Eleanor Supon, Lillian Pierrera, Catherine Basta and Faye Morris; his brothers Richard, John, Adelbert, Bernard and Kenneth.
He is survived by his three children, Teresa Donnelly Watts, Susan Donnelly Sept and Patrick Donnelly Jr; his five grandchildren, Jonathon Trejo, Emeline Trejo, Tristan Sept, Isolda Sept and Patricia Watts; and lastly by older brothers Frank and David.
Public viewing will be Jan. 10 from 2-6 p.m. at Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder. Rosary will be at 6 p.m. also at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be Jan. 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Marks Church in Waitsburg.
