College Place

Patrick Lawrence Buettner was born on February 27, 1958, in Minot, ND to Lawrence Buettner and Helen Heinze. Pat moved to Walla Walla with his parents and six siblings when he was 7. He grew up in this quaint town spending his days hunting, fishing, and causing a ruckus with his buddies.

After graduating from Walla Walla High School in 77’ he tried his hand in law enforcement and got a job working at the penitentiary. While working there he married Karla Griffin with whom he had a son Jared Buettner in 83’. They later divorced.

Pat had a major passion for the outdoor life; he decided to pursue that passion and moved to the great state of Alaska in 85’. There he went after that love for hunting, fishing, and just having a rockin’ time. He began his career as a meat cutter and his talent soared. He was a mind-blowing chef and perfected his recipes which he later wanted to spin into a book. He loved sharing that knowledge with everyone he came across. His costumers requested him by name and he was renowned for his excellent customer service. When he wasn’t working he was out being a “wildman” with his buddies and his son Jared.

If you knew Pat you knew he was the life of the party. He’s the one who brought everyone together; he supplied all the bomb food and great laughs. You could hear that man’s laugh from the other room and once you did that contagious giggle brought you into the room to join in on the good times.

While he was out freestyling on the last frontier he met and married Lana Paddock, mother of Landon and Christian Thompson. They had a daughter Lanalisa Buettner in 98’. They later divorced. As much as he loved Alaska his love for his children was greater. He relocated back down in Walla Walla to help raise his daughter and found a job working at Super One as a meat cutter. Spending his later days passing his skills onto to his loved ones. In the last couple years of his life he was a journeyman meat cutter and managed the meat counter at Andy’s Market. In his time away from that he was either with his family, grilling up delicacies, knee deep in water, or beating through brush with a rifle in hand. Pat was unexpectedly taken from us while out hunting, those who knew him would say “He went doing what he loved.”

He is survived by his son, Jared (Silvie) Buettner of Moembris, Germany; and daughter, Lanalisa Buettner of Spokane. His siblings, The Buettner crew, Mike (Terri) Jo-Ann (Stephen), Bobbie (Walter), Jim (Sue), Mary, and Rose. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins whom he all loved and cherished, his companion, Rosie Johnson.
