Nancy A. (Payne) Arnold, 80, of Walla Walla, passed
away suddenly on May 21, 2015, at home. Nancy was
born in Kelso, Wash., on Dec. 11, 1934, to the late
Ray and Agnes (Hose) Payne. She married Dewey
(Bud) Arnold on June 20, 1964, and they were married
just 18 days short of 50 years when Bud passed
away on June 2, 2014.
Nancy graduated from RA Long High School in
Longview, Wash., in June 1953. She attended Northwest
Bible College in Seattle, graduating in May
1957.
She worked at Walla Walla Rogers Canning Company,
where she met her future husband, Bud. Together
they taught fourth- and fifth-grade Sunday School
students at College Place Presbyterian Church over
30 years, and Nancy was still teaching an adult Bible
Study for women on Tuesdays at the Assembly of
God Church until her passing. Many of their Sunday
School students, as well as nieces and nephew were
taught to water ski behind Bud’s boat. As gardeners
they shared their produce and jams with friends and
family.
Nancy was predeceased by a sister, Jean Marie
Payne; and brother, Richard Albert Payne on Aug.
10, 1946. She is survived by a sister, Marian, (Ivan)
Christensen of Wenatchee; brother, Russell (Carol)
Payne of Kenosha, Wis.; nieces, Sara Christensen,
Laura Colberg, Jeanne Munson all of Washington,
Rhonda O’Connor of Kenosha, Wis.; and nephew,
Kennan Christensen of Washington; as well as seven
grand-nephews and two grand-nieces.
Graveside services will be under the direction of
Herring-Groseclose Funeral Home at Mountain
View Cemetery on Saturday, May 30, 2015, at 11
a.m. Memorials may be made to the charity of your
choice.
