On August 25, 2024, Creta Nadine Scudder passed away in Walla Walla, WA at 96 years old. She was born on March 9, 1928, in Dellvale, KS to Elda and Blanche Heller in her grandparents' home. Her early days were marked by remarkable resilience. Weighing only 4 lbs. 1 oz at birth she was so small that the doctor didn’t expect her to live, her grandmother placed her on the oven door in a box to keep her warm and to see if she’d live through the night. Defying expectations, she grew to lead a life filled with love, warmth, and devotion.
Nadine grew up in Norton, KS with her three brothers and one sister until their family moved to Milton-Freewater, OR in 1946. The following year, she graduated from Mac High on May 22, 1947. That same year she met Herbert Scudder at a dance in Milton-Freewater, and on October 6, 1947, they were married. For the first few years of their marriage, they lived on a dairy farm in Umapine, OR. Where they welcomed their first 3 daughters. They then moved to Prescott in 1954, where they had 2 boys and 2 more girls for a total of 7 kids. After their kids moved out, they moved to Waitsburg and later moved to Walla Walla where they would live for the rest of their lives.
Nadine worked at home raising her seven kids until 1968, when she went to work at Rogers Cannery in Walla Walla where she worked for 32 years. She embraced the simple joys of life, such as fishing, working on puzzles, going on scenic car rides, going out for breakfast, and visiting with her best friend Harriet Dutton. She could often be found whistling and loved to listen to piano music. But most of all, she loved her family, she was the happiest when she was surrounded by her seven kids, 14 grandkids, and multiple great-grandkids.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Scudder; her two brothers, Donald Heller and Charles Heller, and her sister, Joyce Heller.
She is survived by her brother, Raymond Heller (Judy); her seven Children, Creta Darrow (Rick), Carolyn Rand (Richard), Charlene Lakey, Tim Scudder (Janna), Colleen Scudder (Robert), Carman Gerking (Kevin) and Chris Scudder (Debbie); as well as 14 Grandkids, 25 Great-Grandkids, and four Great-Great-Grandkids
