Nadine Ruth Christensen

February 19, 1927 — April 29, 2015

Nadine Ruth (Nicki) Christensen passed away on April 29 at the Odd Fellows Home surrounded by her family. Nicki was born on February 19, 1927, in Walla Walla, to Robert J. and Ruth (Stiller) Jessee, the youngest of their children. Nicki grew up on the Stiller homestead east of Lowden on the south side of the Walla Walla River. She spent her teen years in Fife, Washington, while her dad worked for Boeing and moved houses. Upon their return to the family farm, Nicki worked at the Walla Walla Airbase during World War II, folding parachutes as part of the war effort.

On May 4, 1947, Nicki married Lawrence (Bud) Christensen. Bud and Nicki moved to their family farm off of Mojonnier Road where they lived for sixty some years. Nicki was a homemaker, mother and wife, feeding harvest crews and hired men on a daily basis. During this time, Bud and Nicki had four children: Sandi (Doug) Smith, Patty (Loren) Van Buskirk, Craig (Julie) Christensen, and Allan (Cindy) Christensen. During this time, both were active in the Valley Chapel Farm Bureau and two square dance groups. Nicki became a member of the Disciples of Christ, Central Christian Church in 1960. Family was very important to Nicki as evident in her love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. When Bud passed away in March of 2009, just shy of their 62nd wedding anniversary, Nicki remained on the farm for two more years. As Nicki’s battle with Alzheimer’s increased, Nicki moved to Pioneer House and then to the Odd Fellows Home where she passed away.

Nicki is survived by her four children and their spouses, twelve grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren as well as sisters-in-law, Maita Kibler and June Cline along with numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother, Gene (Muriel) Jessee of Burns Lake, BC. Nadine was preceded in death by her husband and parents, two brothers, Robert, Jr. and Clinton, and one sister, Arlene Keve.

The family would especially like to thank Pioneer House staff and the staff of the East Wing Care Center at the Odd Fellows Home.

The casket will be open for viewing from 2-4 on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the Herring Funeral Home. Private family graveside services will be held Monday afternoon. The family would like to invite those who knew and loved her, both family and friends, to a Celebration of Life for Nicki from 2-5 on Monday, May 4, 2015 at the Walla Walla Elks Club. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charity of the Donor’s choice through the funeral home.
