In the early morning hours of Oct. 13, 2014, Myra Adlington left this world and into the hands of the Lord.
Born in Mabton, Wash., on Sept. 17, 1917 to a pioneering family, she was one of seven children of Felix and Mary Murphy Hicklin. After high school she attended Mount Vernon Junior College and later graduated from what was to become Western Washington University with a degree in education. This started her career as a first-grade teacher, which she pursued with her characteristic good spirit and great zeal. Her experiences as a teacher were the source of some of her fondest memories.
While at Mount Vernon Junior College she met Terry Adlington, who would become the love of her life. They were married Nov. 7, 1942, and lived as two bodies with one soul until Terry’s death in September of 1994.
She is preceded in death by her siblings. She is survived by daughter, Jane Adlington; son, Tim Adlington (Debbie); grandchildren, Sam Adlington, Brenda Huggins (Dennis) and Jarrod Billow; great-grandchildren, Jessica Huggins and Brandon Billow.
Myra will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her boundless energy and firm belief of the goodness in everyone was an inspiration to all.
Viewing and visitation will be on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, from 5-7 p.m., at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home with funeral mass being held at St. Patrick’s Church on Friday, Oct. 17, 2014, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice in her memory.
