Mildred E. Stock Harvey

Our mother left us for a better place on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, at the age of 96. She was born the 10th child of Louis and Anna Stock on Feb. 18, 1922, in Evansville, Indiana. Mom attended St. Anthony’s grade school and Memorial High School in Evansville.

While in high school, she worked at her brother Louis’s Bakery along with her older sister Agnes. While working there, she like a lot of the other girls cut the tip of her finger off in the bread slicer!

After high school, she attended Lockyear Business College. After Business College she moved to Washington DC and worked for a while, before returning to Evansville, where she worked for the Defense Department at the shipyards where they built the LST’s.

Mom met her husband to be, Leroy V. Harvey at a USO dance. They were married in June 1945. Dad had recently returned from the 2nd World War and was still in the Army Air Corp. They moved to Saline, Kansas where dad was stationed until his Honorable Discharge, upon which they moved to Walla Walla to be closer to his family.

Mom worked at Continental Can and later for the Walla Walla Clinic for 35 years. During that time she raised four boys (three boys Doug, Mike and Mark) and dad while she worked full time. There was always an open door and open heart to anyone who showed up at our door.

She was an exceptional cook and baker, thanks to her 100% German roots. Every year kids and grandkids gathered to bake Christmas cookies and pastries.

Mom and dad had a few years together after they retired and spent that time traveling. After dad passed, mom continued traveling with her lady friends all over the country and the world. She had a wall in her kitchen that was covered from floor to ceiling with magnets from everywhere she had traveled. Mom lived by herself after dad passed until about 6 months before she passed. She was a strong independent woman who loved and cherished her family, especially her grand kids and great grand kids.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years and youngest son, Mark 57, in 2012; her parents and nine siblings.

She leaves behind two sons, Doug Harvey wife Jane, Mike Harvey wife Kathy; grand kids, Alison Harvey Rodgers husband Ryan, Carrie Harvey Brennan, Maryn Harvey Eslinger husband Sean, Scott Harvey wife Kim, Bryan Harvey, Millicent Harvey Jones, along with 10 great grand kids.

A special thanks to Jane who opened her heart and her home, where mom spent her last days. Also special thanks to Ruby, mom’s caretaker who became a member of our family. Mom will be missed by her family and all of her wonderful friends. But, her warm smile and open heart will hopefully live on in all of us

There will be a Graveside Service on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 9:30Am at Mountain View Cemetery of Walla Walla, WA.
