Michael Allen White, 79, of Waitsburg, Washington, passed away on November 24, 2025, at his residence.
Michael was born on March 25, 1946, in Ontario, Oregon, to Jasper Arthur White and Wilma (Hickey) White. He was raised in the Northwest and graduated from Waitsburg High School in 1964. Michael went on to pursue higher education, earning his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Eastern Oregon University and a Master’s degree from Washington State University.
On January 4, 1969, Michael married the love of his life, Claudette Pauline Roy, in Lewiston, Maine. They shared nearly 57 wonderful years of marriage, building a life rooted in love, family, and community.
Michael dedicated his career to education, serving as a school teacher, coach, and athletic director at Waitsburg High School. He was deeply involved in athletics, coaching basketball and football, and mentoring countless students throughout his career. His passion for education and sports left a lasting impact on the Waitsburg community.
He had a lifelong love of hunting and fishing, and in retirement found joy on the golf course, in the outdoors with friends and family, and in proudly watching his grandchildren compete in their sporting activities. He was always plotting his next good-natured practical joke on friends. When the weather didn’t cooperate, he could often be found creating beautiful pieces of woodworking and handcrafted furniture.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Claudette White of Waitsburg, Washington; his daughters, Tisha Lynn White of Walla Walla, Washington, and Michele Marie Paul (Casey Paul) of Waitsburg, Washington; his grandchildren, Brayden Miller, Kirsten Miller (Zach Marks), Bryer Paul, and Kaitlyn Paul; and his great-grandchild, Kirra Marks.
He is also survived by his sister, Sherri White of Baker City, Oregon; his brothers, Tom White (Cecilia) of Baker City, Oregon, Monty White (Roberta) of Baker City, Oregon, and Randy White of Weston, Oregon; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Wilma White; and his brothers, Gary, Richard, Kenney, and Bruce White.
In accordance with his wishes, private family interment will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to the Waitsburg High School Athletics Fund, the Dayton Golf Course, or to a charity of the donor’s choice through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be planned and held after the first of the year.
Michael will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, dedicated educator, and a mentor whose influence extended far beyond the classroom and playing field.
