Michael Scott Lightfoot, 64, passed away too soon on April 4, 2017, in his hometown of Walla Walla, with his family by his side. He fought a long and courageous battle with a rare form of cancer, MDS which then advanced to AML (aggressive leukemia.)
Michael graduated from Wa-Hi in 1971, then served in the U.S. Army from 1971-1974. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran who was a recent recipient of the Quilt Of Valor and also had a pinning ceremony by the VA and Walla Walla Community Hospice to honor his military service. He worked at the Walla Walla County for many years as a Facilities Maintenance Specialist. He was widely loved and respected by the community, his friends and family.
His enthusiasms in life included WW Sweets and Mariners baseball, Seahawks and Eastern Eagles football, fixing up his 1960s VW Beetle and Ford Ranchero, playing golf, refinishing furniture, shopping for items to sell in his Hold Em Up Corral at the Country Store, building things, jet ski racing and camping in his earlier years - we could go on and on but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and his devoted dog, Odie.
He is survived by his wife of almost 34 years, Jeanette Lightfoot; son, Joshua Lightfoot and his fiancé Amanda; daughter, Vanessa Lightfoot; granddaughter, Adaline Lightfoot-Cervantez and her father Davey Cervantez; and his brothers (and wives), Rick and Patti Lightfoot and Lonnie and Teri Lightfoot. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Lightfoot; father, Robert “Red” Lightfoot; and brother, Bobby Lightfoot.
The Lightfoot family is grateful for the outpouring of love, support, prayers, meals and the many tributes to Mike’s kindness, generosity, humor, adventurous and joyful spirit and his irresistible smile. Thanks to Becky Wilson, a family friend, who created Team Lightfoot - a FB page where memories can be shared. #teamlightfoot. They would also like to thank the caring staff of the Cancer Center, VA, WW Community Hospice, and Pastors Doug Hayes and Skip Pritchard of College Place Presbyterian Church.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Dream Foundation, Robin House c/o College Place Presbyterian Church, WW Community Hospice and the Blue Mountain Humane Society through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on April 15, 2017, at College Place Presbyterian Church to celebrate and honor his life.
