Merle Wagoner

Merle (Red) Wagoner passed away July 28, 2012, in Walla Walla at the age of 92.

Although born in Milton Freewater on Sept. 25, 1919, to Delmer and Gertrude Parke Wagoner, he was raised on a farm near Touchet. Merle attended Touchet area schools and graduated from
there in 1937; continuing on for a short time to Whitman College, where he played football and baseball before enlisting in the Marine Corp. He became a master
sergeant and saw action on Saipan and Iwo Jima.

He received an honorable discharge shortly after the war, married, settled back in Walla Walla and earned a degree from Whitman. He worked for many years in sales for the Stone Machinery Company. After retirement he enjoyed fishing with his brothers and became a board member of the Tri-State Steelheaders. He also
helped his brother, Wilbur, with his firewood business.

Merle is survived by his younger brother, Allen; his son, Mike; and two grandchildren.

Those who knew him liked him.
