Mercedes Alicia Bartlett

March 3, 1920 — March 18, 2018

Walla Walla

Mercedes was born March 3, 1920 to Edward and Alice Guay in Schreiber, Ontario, Canada.   They were of French Canadian heritage with the family consisting of 4 sisters and 2 brothers.

She married Loraine Mitchell Bartlett on July 2, 1946 in Fort William, Ontario.  They had two children there, Alice and Raymond.  In 1949 they immigrated to Boise, Idaho joining the Bartlett relatives.    In 1953, this Canadian family was blessed with twin boys, Thomas and Gerard.

The family moved to Walla Walla in 1960.  Mercedes always had an open-door policy for family and friends.  She hosted many events all centering around family and loved ones.  The Canadian relatives quickly learned about this beautiful Walla Walla Valley and visited often.   Family from Boise were also constantly traveling to visit and enjoy her hospitality and fabulous meals.

The family became permeant residence of Walla Walla and became American Citizens by the mid 1960’s.

Mom was an active member of Catholic Daughters and St Patrick’s Parish.  Her biggest interest, by far, was all her family.  Her four children gave her 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.  She always had an active part in each of their lives.  She was a stalwart Christian and led an honorable life.  She was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  Her grandchildren adored her, and she was always their advocate through thick and thin.  She had the biggest heart that will live on, a feisty spirit, strong beautiful will, and uncommon faith in God and all her loved ones.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Monday, March 26, at the Washington Odd Fellows Home, 2nd floor auditorium at 10:00AM.  Concluding Services and Interment will follow the reception at Mountain View Cemetery at 2:00PM.

The family would like to express sincere thanks to Providence St.  Mary Hospital and to all the loving folks at the Odd Fellows Home.  Also, our appreciation to Dr. Cunningham and all the caring and loving staff at Providence St. Mary Cancer Center.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Providence St Mary Regional Cancer Center through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA.
