College Place resident Maxine B. Rogers, 85, passed away on Aug. 28, 2014, at Providence St. Mary Medical Center at the age of 85.
Maxine was born Aug. 14, 1929, to Max and Lucille (Stiffler) Wright in Fort Collins, Colo. While just a baby the family moved to Forks, Wash., then to Aberdeen, Wash., where she attended grade school. After graduating from grade school the family moved again to Auburn, Wash., where she spent her high school years at Auburn Adventist Academy, graduating in 1948. After graduating from high school she moved to College Place to be near her sister.
She married Donley (Don) Rogers on Aug. 17, 1952, and they were happily married for 62 years. They had two children, Gary Wayne and Sharline Lynette. Maxine was a member of the College Place Village Seventh day Adventist Church. Maxine was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family.
Maxine was well known in the community for her years of working at the snack bar on the Walla Walla College campus followed by almost 30 years of managing the Adventist Book Center in College Place.
She is survived by her husband, Don Rogers at the home; son, Gary of College Place; daughter, S. Lynette (Randy) Bates of Loma Linda, Calif.; grandson, Jonathan (Briana) Bates of Sandpoint, Idaho; three grandchildren, Aidan, Talia and Felix; sister, Sharline Wellman of Lacy, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Lucille Wright.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations may be made to Gospel Outreach or Quiet Hour Ministries.
A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m., Sept. 6, 2014, at the College Place Village Seventh day Adventist Church.
