Maryalis Klicker, 88, passed away at home on May 10, 2016.
A life long Walla Wallan, Maryalis was born to Manuel and Helen Anhorn on Sept. 5, 1927.
She attended St. Patrick’s Grade School and graduated from Walla Walla High School. Maryalis attended Washington State College from
1946-1949. She returned to finish her home economic and teaching degree at Washington State University in 1966. She was a die-hard Cougar fan and encouraged everyone to attend WSU.
As a teenager Maryalis met her future husband, Rich Klicker, in the Klicker strawberry fields. They married in 1949, and shared a full life farming and raising their family until Rich’s passing in 1998.
Her life was filled with teaching and service to her family, community, and church. She was the Home Ec and PE teacher at DeSales High School. She was a member of the Walla Walla Junior Club, Farm Bureau and Cattle Women, often times chairing and cooking for these organizations’ fund raisers. She was a 4-H leader for over 20 years and annually was asked to be the clothing and food judge for several
fairs in Washington State.
Maryalis spent a great deal of time volunteering at St. Mary’s Hospital, St. Vincent DePaul and with the Assumption Church Women’s Club. She was known as the “Biscotti Queen” and for her quilting skills.
She is survived by her four daughters, Sheryl Cox (Ken), Robyn Meenach (Hal), Jerri Westphal (Keith), Teresa Keyes (Chris); her brother, Dr. Gerald Anhorn (Janice); Rene Vargas Fabilia, her foreign exchange student that she considered as part of her family; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, sister and brother.
