Mary Ann Rasmussen

Mary Ann Rasmussen of Salem, Oregon died February 9 as a result of injuries sustained as a passenger in an automobile accident. She was 94 years old.

Ann was born February 4, 1929, in San Clemente, California, the only child of Darrel and Jessie Drumheller Cannon. She moved at an early age to Walla Walla, Washington where she graduated from high school. After two years at Washington State, she graduated with her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Washington. She did some post-graduate work at Whitman College. She worked as a second-grade teacher in Lake Oswego, Oregon where she met Neil Rasmussen. They were married in Walla Walla in 1956 and settled in Salem, Oregon where Neil managed Consolidated Supply Company for many years.

She loved being with children and worked as a substitute teacher and library aide in Salem schools and after retirement volunteered as a classroom assistant, most recently at Chapman Hill Elementary. She was a long-time member of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church. In 2009 she moved to a villa at Capitol Manor where she lived independently for the rest of her days, enjoying the activities there with many good friends and neighbors.

Ann is survived by three children, Kirk (Keri), Sally (Dale), and Cannon (Rosane); three grandchildren, John, Brianna and Erica; and Winston the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. She was preceded in death by husband Neil and son Eric.

A memorial event will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 18 at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Salem. Interment will be in Walla Walla, arrangements through Herring-Groseclose Funeral Home.
