Mary Lindemann

April 4, 1922 — August 27, 2015

Mary Lindemann, 93, departed to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Aug. 27, 2015.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 109 S. Roosevelt, with the Rev. Stephen Juergensen officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens, 300 S.E. Myra Road, College Place. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the Multiple Scierois Society through Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla.

Born in Outlook, Wash., to Frank and Mary Sholtys on April 4, 1922, she was the fifth of six children. After graduating from Sunnyside High School, Mary attended Central Washington University in Ellensburg, majoring in education. Her first teaching assignment was at the grade school in Toppenish, Wash. She married Ewald A. (Lindy) Lindemann on Aug. 7, 1949. In 1955 they moved to College Place, where she taught elementary school. Later she went back to Central Washington University and earned her master’s in library science. She was the librarian at several Walla Walla grade schools. She was a member of the Washington State Teachers Association and National Education Association. Mary was one of the first teachers to receive the Washington State Golden Apple Award for teaching excellence. Mary was the first librarian at the newly opened Blue Ridge School and remained there until she retired in 1984.

Mary was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and active in Women’s Guild and taught Vacation Bible School for many years. Mary supported her three children in various 4H, FFA and Little League activities. She enjoyed her summers when not attending summer college classes, gardening, canning and traveling in their RV. She loved to cook, bake and was noted for her holiday family dinners.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, “Lindy,” and is survived by her three children, Dean A. Lindemann and wife Marian Lindemann of Palm Bay, Fla, Karl R. Lindemann of Glendale, Ariz., Karen A. Lindemann of Walla Walla; two step-grandsons; five step-great grandchildren.
