Mary Ann Gonzalez

Mary Ann (Hernandez) Gonzalez, 73, a longtime resident of Walla Walla WA died peacefully at home with the family at her side on October 13, 2015. Mary Ann was born April 18, 1942 in Elmhurst, Texas to Juan and Alafonsa (Camero) Hernandez. Her parents, brothers and sisters moved to Walla Walla in April 1959. She received her high school diploma from Walla Walla Community College in April 1970. She married Julio Gonzalez on July 1, 1961 by civil ceremony. They were later married at St. Patrick’s Church on October 19, 1966. Mary Ann came from a big family and married into a bigger family.

Mary Ann was a homemaker while her four children were growing up. She later worked at St. Vincent De Paul, D & K, Grab-on, Department of Social and Health Services and retired in 2007.

She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Family always came first. She enjoyed making crafts, flower arrangements, traveling and spending time with her family. She volunteered for AARP Tax-Aid Program, was involved in St. Patrick's Catholic Church by organizing funeral receptions and Walla Walla County DUI Victims Panel for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Julio Gonzalez, daughters, Julie Ann Escalante of Walla Walla WA, Lauri Ann Patiño (Saul), Prescott, WA, Margret Ann Aquino (Hector), Walla Walla, WA, and son, Ruben Gonzalez (Jennifer), Puyallup, WA, 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Feliciana Castijella (Antonio), Mary Ellen De La Garza, North Carolina, Amelia Aguilar, Pasco, WA, Incarnación Olivares, Illinois, brothers, John Hernandez (Pebble), Olympia, WA and Frank Hernandez (Mary), Walla Walla, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Soledad Hernandez, Amparo Hernandez, Susie Ramirez, brother Jose Hernandez and grandson Gabriel Justin Gonzalez.

Viewing & visitation will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2015 from 1:00 PM until after the Rosary at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2015 also at the funeral home. The funeral Mass will be recited on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 1:00 PM at St. Patrick’s Church, Walla Walla, WA. Graveside Services will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Walla Walla Community Hospice through the funeral home.
